What Junk Removal Companies Won't Take in Phoenix, AZ

Most junk removal companies — including DoyleDoes — can haul away the vast majority of what's in your home or garage. But there are some items that can't legally or safely go in a standard junk removal truck. Here's what's off-limits, why, and what to do with it instead.

Hazardous Materials

This is the big one. Anything classified as hazardous waste can't go in a junk truck:

• Paint — latex and oil-based paint, stains, varnishes
• Chemicals — pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, solvents
• Motor oil, gasoline, and automotive fluids
• Batteries — car batteries especially; household batteries in large quantities
• Propane tanks — even partially empty ones
• Fluorescent bulbs and tubes — contain mercury
• Asbestos-containing materials — requires licensed abatement

What to do instead: Maricopa County has Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off events throughout the year. Search "Maricopa County HHW" to find the next one near you. Many are free.

Medical Waste and Sharps

Needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharps are regulated medical waste. They cannot go in a regular trash or junk haul. Many pharmacies in the Phoenix area have sharps drop-off programs. Check CVS, Walgreens, and local health clinics.

Tires

Most junk removal companies won't haul tires due to disposal fees and restrictions. Auto shops often take old tires for a small fee, and some tire retailers will take them when you purchase new ones. Maricopa County also has tire collection programs.

Fire Extinguishers

Full or partially charged fire extinguishers can't go in a junk truck. Many fire stations will accept them, or contact a local fire equipment company for disposal options.
